Tracks in the snow

Snowshoe hiking in the Allgäu

When our guests return from a winter hike through the snow-covered Allgäu to the cosy lounges of the Tanneck, their eyes are shining, their cheeks are rosy and many are beaming from ear to ear.
Coat off, hat away, take a deep breath – and then quickly into the warmth.

Over 80 km of romantically beautiful winter trails lead through the Hörner villages, winding through snowy valleys and past majestic, snow-covered mountains. When snowshoe hiking in the Allgäu, many guests feel as though they’ve stepped into their very own winter fairy tale. That’s how enchantingly beautiful winter is here with us.

Winter hiking around Fischen - Tanneck

Winter hiking around Fischen

Well-cleared paths lead through the snowy landscape around Fischen, past meadows and forests and alongside rivers.
Popular routes include the paths along the Iller, a loop around the frozen Auwaldsee or the trail to the Hinanger waterfalls, which take on a character all of their own in winter. The Breitachklamm gorge is also easy to hike in the cold season, with ice formations clinging to the rock walls. A truly spectacular experience!

With torches through the snow - Tanneck

With torches through the snow

If you’d like to experience snowshoe hiking in the Allgäu with expert guidance, you can join one of the organised snowshoe tours. These tours are offered in Fischen and the Hörner villages and lead off the beaten track through the winter landscape.
Some of these hikes even take place by torchlight. Especially in the evening, this creates a very special atmosphere out in the snow, which sparkles magically in the warm, flickering light.
