The Tanneck

Our Tanneck has been around since 1935. Over the years, it has grown into a hotel with around 60 individually designed themed rooms and suites. Couples spend their holidays here, solo travellers enjoy time to themselves, and several generations often travel together – from the youngest family members to grandma and grandad.
Just below lies the nature village of Fischen. The striking Alpine backdrop, little shops and short distances give this dreamy village its charm and appeal. Right outside the hotel, the Allgäu landscape begins: meadows, mountains and paths for walks, hikes and bike tours, plus cross-country trails and ski areas just around the corner in winter. It’s precisely this proximity to both village life and nature that makes a stay at the Tanneck so wonderfully effortless.

At the Tanneck, everything revolves around people. Those who come to stay with us. And those who look after our guests. The Fischer host family is now running the hotel in the fourth generation – with genuine warmth and always a sympathetic ear for both guests and the team. People know each other, greet each other and take time for one another. Many members of staff have been with Das Tanneck for decades, some for over 30 years. This spirit of togetherness shapes the atmosphere throughout the hotel: warm, dependable and personal. New faces soon feel at home here, because experience is shared and a sense of cohesion is tangible. This is exactly what creates that special atmosphere that many guests notice and appreciate from their very first day.

History & tradition

For almost a century now, the Tanneck has stood like a guardian above the nature village of Fischen in the Allgäu. What began as a small house in 1935 has, over the decades, been continually carried forward, extended and reimagined. Each generation has left its mark – with respect for what already exists and an eye to the future.
From this history, a very distinctive style of hospitality has grown – warm, attentive and genuinely close to people.

1930s & 1940s | The beginnings

1950s & 1960s | Expansion and initial growth

1970s | Further development and new offers

1980s–1990s | Terraces, sauna and the next generation

2000s | Transition to the third generation

In 2000, son Florian is born, followed by son Dominik in 2002.
In 2005, rooms are renovated and the capacity is increased to 120 beds.
In 2006, Patricia and Thomas Fischer take over the hotel in the third generation. Extensive projects begin: Insulating more than 1,600 m² of façade, a new colour scheme, remodelling the Alpin-Sicht-Bar and further room renovations.
In 2008, the Milchwell® feel-good concept is created and the first themed rooms move into the house.

2010s | Wellness, themed rooms and energy efficiency

In the following years, the sauna facilities are expanded, the restaurant redesigned, terraces built, relaxation rooms created and the wellness area continuously extended. Guests now swim towards the mountains in the infinity pool and find peaceful retreats in the Alpine park.
At the same time, the Tanneck embarks on a consistent path towards energy efficiency: Combined heat and power units, heat recovery, roof renovations, complete refurbishment of the indoor pools, a new roof lounge and ongoing room modernisation right up to the present day.

2020s | Renewal and the future

From 2020, further major steps follow: Replacement of the combined heat and power unit, new relaxation rooms, renovations in the north wing, a new ‘Allgäu Seasons’ sauna area, a 95 kWp photovoltaic system, e-charging station, extensive façade and balcony refurbishments and additional energy-efficiency measures.
2026: With Dominik and Florian Fischer, the fourth generation is growing into the future and into the management of the house.

Sustainable and close to nature

Sustainability has long been part of everyday life at the Tanneck – not just a recent trend. Over many years, the hotel has been gradually developed with a focus on energy use, resources and how we interact with the natural environment that defines the Allgäu. Technical measures, regional partnerships and conscious decisions in day-to-day operations all interlock.
